Less than a half hour after the Electric Run 5k in Fairmount Park started, the City of Philadelphia shut it down due to severe lightning strikes.  Thousands were forced to evacuate the park and go home all at once causing traffic jams and hordes of unhappy fun runners.  It’s safe to say that since the very theme of this annual 5k caused its demise, this was the most ironic fun run ever.

Here is the Electric Run’s response to the shutdown via their Facebook:  “We are totally bummed that the event couldn’t go on. We will be shooting out an email with a formal response to all registered participants in the coming days concerning details for Philly, We will be coming back!”
