The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program hosted Wall Ball 2013 on Thursday. The gala event at Vie featured NBA Hall of Famer and Former Philadelphia 76er, Julius “Dr. J” Erving. The evening will provide much needed funds for the Mural Arts Program, a program designed to improve Philadelphia neighborhoods through the arts.
The evening featured live entertainment, art-making, and more to help further Philadelphia’s reputation as the “City of Murals.” The City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program is the nation’s largest mural program, and the Wall Ball has helped the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program raise critical operational dollars to support its mission to continue to unite artists and communities together to create art rooted in the traditions of mural-making that transforms public spaces and individuals lives. Since 1984, the Mural Arts Program has created over 3,500 murals and works of public art, earning Philadelphia international recognition as the “City of Murals.” The Mural Arts Program engages over 100 communities each year in the transformation of neighborhoods through the mural-making process, while award-winning, free art education programs serve nearly 1,000 youth at sites throughout the city and at-risk teens through education outreach programs.
