The new year might inspire some people to make a professional change, and if that sounds like you, don’t be overwhelmed. 2014 might just be a good time to look for work. Brittany Sacks, associate director for international recruiting and job placement firm Michael Page, says that the past four months have spawned a lot of openings in a particular group of fields. Sacks highlights manufacturing, technology-driven fields and law firms as the job groups offering positions at the highest rates.

“I like to tell people to think about what they want to be three to five years from now, not just that first year of the move,” Sacks says.

Michael Page manager Deena Toukan says to stay competitive, it’s important that you have a clean, well-formatted resume filled with “anything you can quantify to show your success.” Another bit of advice – be flexible. It may be advantageous to take a sidestep or just a slight increase in pay if a given company offers growth potential.
