Bullies only seem to grow as we do, from school yards bullies, to cyber thugs, and now “Bully Bosses”. We see them constantly as media spotlights them in movies such as “Horrible Bosses” and “The Devil Wears Prada”. And, Even in television shows such as “The Simpsons”. Such Bosses use physical and psychological intimidation tactics to harass employees, says Philadelphia Employment Attorney Johnathan Segal.
These methods of intimidation also include the way a boss may stand, yelling, publicly calling out someone’s mistakes, and reminding an employee that they can be fired at will. Segal says, bullies are co-dependant because they need to make someone feel bad so they can feel good. I asked Segal about his tips on ending bullying for good. Do you have your pen or pencil? Tip #1.: Do not let a bully get to you.
- Segal says, if a bully sees that you are unaffected by their antics they will get no satisfaction out of bothering you.
Tip #2.: Confront your bully.
- Stand up respectfully and with strength. Let them know that they in fact are week.
