With the temperatures rising above 90 degrees many of us believe it is too hot! These temperatures are especially unbearable without air conditioning. This week our DIY Hip Chick, Beth Allen showed us ways to beat the heat without needing the air conditioner.

The first and most important tip is to keep your windows open! Don’t keep yourself locked in a hot house. Cross ventilation is necessary to keep the air flowing through your home. While you should keep your windows open, shutting your blinds during peak sunlight will block the sunlight and the extra heat.

Did you know that your ceiling fan is designed to keep you cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter? If you look on the top of your ceiling fan there is a switch that will move your blades counter-clockwise in the summer to pull the warm air up and out of your way.

Many of your everyday kitchen appliances can let off heat. Running them early in the day or late at night can help keep the whole house cool during the summer.

And, Peas aren’t just for injuries anymore! Applying a bag of frozen peas to pressure points on your body can help you cool off when you’re looking to beat the heat.
