Friday, May 3rd at Citizens Bank Park, the Philadelphia Phillies hosted “Teacher Appreciation Night” during their pre-game festivities. For the 13th straight year, the Philadelphia Phillies teamed up with the Newspapers in Education of The Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News to say thank you to great educators in the region who are making a difference.
We can all think of a teacher who had an impact on our lives. The Phillies’ players are no different. First baseman Ryan Howard did not when asked to name his favorite teacher. Paula Grana was Howard’s first aid and physical education teacher while he attended Lafayette High School in Wildwood, Missouri.
When asked why Paula Grana is Ryan’s favorite teacher, the 1st basement replied:
“Ms. Grana was awesome. She was a teacher who didn’t allow us to do any less than what we were capable of. She never let us slack off because she believed that we each had the potential for greatness and she wanted that to come out. She worked hard to bring the best out of you.”
