Hey there Phillies fans, ever wonder what the Phillies players are up to *off* the baseball field?  Well, we’ve got the latest scoop on one of your favorite south paws and the prestigious award he just received!

This week on Phillies Friday, Eye Opener’s Zachery Lashway reports on Phillies pitcher, Cole Hamels, who received the Jamie Moyer Legends Award at the First Annual “Champion for Children Luncheon” in Center City.  The event brought together Philadelphia business leaders, community partners and individuals to raise funds and awareness for The Moyer Foundation’s mission to help children in distress through its signature programs in Camp Erin and Camp Mariposa.  Cole was recognized for his commitment to success on and off the field through his organization, “The Hamels Foundation.”  Cole and his wife Heidi created their foundation in 2008, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of children through the power of education by giving them the tools they need to achieve their goals.

Jamie Moyer also recognized Denis P. O’Brien, Senior Executive Vice President of Exelon Corporation and Chief Executive Officer of Exelon Utilities, with The Moyer Foundation’s Community All-Star Award for his commitment to community and dedication to making a positive impact for those in need.

When asked about the inspirational efforts of his foundation, Moyer states, “Number one, we’re trying to help these kids, first of all show someone cares about them, and that somebody loves them.”

Since the year 2000, The Moyer Foundation has raised millions of dollars to help better the lives of more than 70,000 children. For more information on The Moyer Foundation visit their website
