Jennifer Lewis-Hall:

Many people have sleepless nights because of a condition called restless leg syndrome or RLS. PHL17's Jason Lee Spoke to Doctor Mark Buchfuhrer to find out more.

Jason Lee:
Doctor Good Morning. Let's dive right on in. Tell us about RLS and the problems it can cause in terms of insomnia.

Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer:
RLS is a neurological sensory and motor disorder that causes patients to experience these really weird, hard to describe sensation in their legs associated with this irresistible urge to move their legs. It occurs at rest, so the only way patients can get relief is by moving their legs, rubbing their legs, or getting out of bed and walking.

Jason Lee:
Tell everybody how we can treat RLS.

Dr. Mark Buchfuhrer:
Well until recently the really only effective treatments for restless legs were these four medications, and of course the trouble with medications are that they're not always effective and they can cause side effects which are concerning. So it's great to say that we have one, new non-pill, non-drug FDA approved treatment that's a device, the Relaxis Pad, that you can use to relieve your symptoms. So great way to take care of restless legs if you don't want to use pills. Just put this under your legs when you go to bed and you can relieve the symptoms.

If you need more information you can go to the company's website and even do a self-assessment test at

Jason Lee:
Alright Doctor Mark Buchfuhrer. Thank you so much for being with us this morning. We appreciate it. And Eye Opener continues.
