Teacher Adam Rosinski and student leaders John Barbera and Liam Scott have been busy since December campaigning for Pope Francis to visit St. Joe’s Prep. The idea is called “2 Philly 4 Francis” and the team is working around the clock to try to get the Vatican’s attention all through social media by using the hashtag #2Philly4Francis on Facebook and Twitter.
“We are going to be ready for Pope Francis if he decides to make a stop…and we hope that happens,” John Barbara said, a sophomore at St. Joe’s Prep.
For John and Liam, a Pope Francis visit would be inspirational.
“If I had one thing to say to the Pope right now…it would be if you come to St. Joe’s Prep during the weekend of the pilgrimage you are going to be inspiring a new generation of Catholics. Instead of just meeting the adults and getting them inspired...this is all teenagers. These are Jesuit educated teenagers and you’re going to be inspiring the younger generation,” Liam Scott said, a sophomore at St. Joe’s Prep.
This September St. Joe’s Prep will be welcoming over 350 Jesuit students from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Although having the Pope visit the school would be a great accomplishment there is a deeper meaning to his visit.
“What we are really trying to do is bring these 350 or so Jesuit high school kids together to spend some time with each other to pray to celebrate to learn about this Jesuit and catholic identity that we share and then to go and pray and celebrate with the church gathering in Philadelphia and the Pope,” teacher Adam Rosinski said.
