Take a look at Philly’s latest hangout spot, Urban Axes!

“Urban Axes is Americas and Philadelphia’s first indoor axe throwing venue. Where people come together as a group and play the sport that has grown in popularity in the last 10 years in Canada,” axe master general Lily Cope said.

Inspired by leagues in the UK, Canada and Australia, Urban Axes is complete with 16 throwing lanes offering leagues and private events.

“The good thing about it is that it’s a structure game play. What we built around this is a structured private events and structured league nights.  So we have an eight-week league that runs so people can compete against each other.  It’s not just coming and throwing an axe at a board. It’s bringing people together with a sense of community and support around axe throwing,” Stuart Jones said, one of founders of Urban Axes.

The cost to play is 35 dollars a person with games lasting two to three hours playing in a round robin tournament.

“It’s a blast. You come you throw for two and half hours with your buddies and you drink a couple of beers. You walk away being like yeah I can throw an axe and I think that is a really unique and wonderful experience and something to be produce of. I think its cool,” team member Benjamin Bass said.

Urban Axes is set to open in late September.

Already people are excited about it. People who I talk to are like what do you do for a living and I say I’m an axepert and I teach people how to throw axes. People are really excited and can’t wait to get in here,” Anna Clemency, Urban Axes team member said.
