The mummers community is mourning the loss of one of their own this morning as long time member of the Dowtowners Fancy Brigade Jim Julia passed away at the age of 60.

Jim Julia was the longtime president of the Downtowners Fancy Brigade, the president of the Fancy Brigade Association and Vice-President of the Mummers Museum.   Julia was instrumental in moving the Fancy Brigades indoors to the PA Convention Center in the 1990’s.

Jim Julia’s came from a South Philadelphia family deeply routed in Mummery.   His uncles were pioneers in launching Golden Crown in the 1950’s and his own son marched in his first parade at 8.

“It’s the friendship, camaraderie and being part of something bigger than yourself,” he says. “this keeps me in the neighborhood i grew up in with all my childhood friends.”

The mummers community lost a great friend.
