Juneteenth celebrations hold a different tone this year amid civil unrest

Today, people are celebrating Juneteenth- a holiday that enslaved blacks in Texas received the news they were free, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

To provide a historical context of Juneteenth, the day’s significance this year, and how we can recognize the holiday, Dr. Keith Green, Associate Professor of English and Director of Africana Studies at Rutgers University Camden joined us.
