Gap Inc. will close more than 225 Gap and Banana Republic stores this year. That number is nearly three times more than the company previously announced.

Gap, which owns the Banana Republic brand, initially announced in March it would close 90 stores.

The drastic increase shows how retailers are struggling during the pandemic.

Gap announced most of the store closures will be in malls.
