Alzheimer’s Association’s “The Longest Day”

Many of us are wearing purple today to highlight Alzheimer`s awareness. The Alzheimer`s Association is holding a nationwide event today called "The Longest Day." From sunrise to sunset, teams of supporters around the world will put on their purple and spend the summer solstice participating in activities they love while raising funds to end Alzheimer's.

Alzheimer`s, the most common type of dementia, is a fatal brain disease. It is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. Here in our region as many as 290,000 people have Alzheimer`s. Five point four million people in the country have the disease.
