Healthy Summer Snacks and Sips

PHL17 Extra

What can you keep stocked at home to fuel summer activities? Today we have registered dietitian Marie Spano here with us to share her favorite snacks and sips.

Blend in Color and Flavor

We eat with our eyes and nothing says tasty as well as eye-popping colors. Fruits and veggies should be at the top of your list to deliver a beautiful array of hues.

Wonderful Halos are an excellent grab-and-go snack with natural energy to help you power through the day. Eat them at home, pack them as an after-practice snack for your kids or serve them at your next outdoor gathering. They are a good source of fiber which is so important as many of us are only getting half of the fiber we need each day for good health. Halos are also an excellent source of vitamin C to help support a healthy immune system.

It’s hot outside so you’ll want to Drink Up

Many people rely on bottled water, but you’ll do a better job hydrating if you pick up something that tastes great. I enjoy POM Wonderful spritzers made with sparkling lime water and a fresh slice of lime. These drinks are not only good but they are good for you. POM Wonderful 100-percent pomegranate juice is a simple way to power through your day with antioxidants. Antioxidants fight free radicals, compounds that can damage to the body’s cells when they overwhelm our body’s antioxidant capacity. POM Wonderful has 4x the amount antioxidants as green tea, on average. Every 16-oz bottle of POM Wonderful 100-percent pomegranate juice has the juice of four whole-pressed pomegranates and nothing else – no fillers, and never any added sugar.

Try a Sweet Treat

Whether you are entertaining a few of your family or friends or simply enjoying a weekend afternoon on a hot day, why not try a mini-dessert that is both inviting and satisfying. Wonderful Pistachios are a good source of plant protein and fiber. In fact, they are one of the highest protein snack nuts offering 6 grams of plant protein per serving. Plus, about 90% of the fats found in pistachios are unsaturated, for a trio of nutrients that may help keep you fuller for a longer period of time.
