Jay Blake is the only drag race captain in America who is completely blind. While he himself doesn’t race, he’s in charge of fixing the car for his Follow a Dream organization. He can take it apart and put it back together purely by touch. I sat down with Jay Blake to talk about how he turned his tragedy into a life-long career.
More than 10 years ago, Blake was working as a mechanic when a forklift wheel and tire assembly exploded in his face leaving him completely blind. Instead of letting that keep him down, he made it a goal to inspire others to reach their dreams and show them that nothing is impossible. Students at Universal Technical Institute in Exton, Pennsylvania took Blake’s message to heart and were inspired to go after their own dreams. Blake says life is a journey and he is along for the ride continuing to pick up speed.
