There’s no better way to celebrate in the City of Philadelphia than with an amazing string band ahead of New Year’s Day! And, Greater Overbrook String Band strummed and strutted their way in our studio performing great holiday classics and traditional string band tunes for us live on set. The string band based in Delaware County is gearing up for the Mummers Parade which you can watch right here on PHL 17. The band performed “Heading for the Hills” at last year’s parade and came in 16th place. And, this year, they’re performing “Showboatin’ On Broad Street” which will feature a stage show and casino as part of the theme. Greater Overbrook String Band President Carmen Vitanza is a former Captain of the band. He and other bands members are getting excited. The band placed second in 1973 and his hoping this year’s 2014 Mummers Parade will bring them plenty of good luck.
Again, you can watch the Mummers Parade right here on PHL 17 starting at 8 a.m. And, you can watch Eye Opener each weekday from 6 to 8 a.m. Happy New Year!
