The Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey is the largest continuous public service campaign alerting and educating New Jersey and greater Philadelphia-area residents about the dangers of substance abuse. The numbers shared on our show are staggering: According to the non-profit, the United States has about 4-percent of the world’s population, and we’re consuming more than 80-percent of the world’s oxycodone supply. That’s while heroin use has increased across the US among men and women, most age groups, and all income levels. Jennifer Lewis-Hall’s guests include Angelo Valente, the Executive Director of the Partnership for a Drug-Free NJ and Steve Cline, Deputy Director of Partnership for Drug-Free Kids. We highlight various public services announcements including an updated version of the “Fried Egg” spot which is a nod to the iconic spot created back in the late eighties talking about how your brain reacts to drugs. Jennifer also interviews Donna DeStefano, founder and CEO of P.I.C.K. Awareness (Parents in Connection for Kids Inc.), a non-for-profit that helps to inform families who are struggling with issues surrounding substance abuse. DeStefano shares her personal story about her daughter’s struggle with drug addiction as she seeks to help other families with information about prevention, treatment and recovery resources. In Focus airs each Saturday morning on at 6:30 AM and 11:30 AM on PHL17.
