Diabetes affects 1 in 11 (29 million) Americans. We spoke to members and volunteers of the American Diabetes Association to learn more about how the disease is affecting our area.

November is American Diabetes Month and according to the American Diabetes Association, every 23 seconds someone in the United States is diagnosed with diabetes. The nonprofit says that $322-billion dollars is the cost of diabetes and prediabetes in the United States. Jennifer Lewis-Hall speaks to Dr. Ronald Brooks, American Diabetes Association Community Leadership Board and Kevin J. Kelly, Executive Director, American Diabetes Association. Volunteers: Lola Sergeant, American Diabetes Community Leadership Board and 12-year old Sydney Smith who is a youth ambassador for the American Diabetes Association also join us. Smith shares how her team raised $20,000 for Diabetes research and awareness. Both volunteers shared their inspiring stories about having diabetes and moving forward positively in their lives.
