PHL17 is excited to celebrate 50 years of broadcasting with a one-hour 50th Anniversary Special to air on PHL17 on September 17th from 8:00pm to 9:00pm. The special is a comprehensive history of the station with segments dedicated to each decade – from years as The Great Entertainer and The WB, up to the PHL17 you know and love.

Honorable mentions from The Great Entertainer include Wee Willie Webber’s Colorful Cartoon Club, Dr. Shock’s Horror Theater, and Dancin’ On Air; as well as years as The WB and shows like 7th Heaven, Unhappily Ever After, and Charmed; and references to our success with sports, news, and the Mummers Parade. There will also be interviews and shout-outs from past and current employees, radio personalities, and other fun guests.

PHL17 signed on air on September 17, 1965 in Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania and moved to their current location on Wynnefield Avenue, which use to be the building of an A&P Supermarket, in 1975. In its 50 years, PHL17 aired games from the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers, and Flyers and helped launched the careers of stars including Madonna, The Hooters, and Kelly Ripa.

Following the PHL17 50th Anniversary Special, be sure to catch The Mentalist from 9:00pm to 10:00pm, and Action News at Ten on PHL17 from 10:00pm to 11:00pm.

And here are some amazing stills we’ve unearthed in making this special.
