Philly's music scene is heavier than you think it is. Philadelphia might be best known for the sounds of soul music from the 70's. What many might not know is that the city is also home to one of the heaviest record labels in the country. Relapse Records has been home to metal, hardcore, and all of it's various offshoots for over 25 years. The label made it's name launching the careers of bands such as Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Baroness, Neurosis, High on Fire, and Amorphis, just to name a few. Today, the label's focus has expanded beyond rock music with bands like Survive, who's most notable for having members who composed and performed the score for the hit Netflix show Stranger Things. While the label has expanded it's range, it still supports all things heavy, including up in coming bands like Red Fang and Philly natives Nothing.
