10th Annual Chester County Balloon Festival

Today is the start of the 10th annual Chester County Balloon Festival at the New Garden Flying Field in Toughkenamon, Pennsylvania.  The Chester County Balloon Festival is a non-profit event with the proceeds going to the Chester County Hero Fund and several other local community groups.

In addition to the customary balloon rides, the Festival will also offer other forms of flight including introductory airplane flights, helicopter. Sunday will be Hero’s Day at the Festival. Fire trucks from local townships will parade down the runway and be on display during the afternoon. Balloons will take off Saturday and Sunday morning between 5:30-6:30 a.m. (weather permitting).

    I remember a hot air balloon festival/race around the Fourth of July growing up in the 80s. Balloons would fly by South Philly, and the whole neighborhood came out to look. Does anyone know what I’m talking about? I’d like to know if it still takes place today.
