Among the national, state and local dignitaries to meet Pope Francis when he arrived in the City of Brotherly Love was a local Philadelphia family.

The Bowes family from Philadelphia was chosen by the World Meeting of Families to meet Pope Francis when he touched down at Atlantic Aviation at Philadelphia International Airport.

"We're going to be replacing the Obama family when he gets here," explained Richard Bowes, a retired Philadelphia police officer.

Richard, his wife Bernadette and their three children; Matthew, Riley and Gabrielle were given the opportunity to present Pope Francis with the Mount Laurel plant upon his arrival in Philadelphia.

But this moment almost didn't happen...

Seven years ago Richard and his fellow officer responded to a police-dispatch in North Philadelphia.  Richard was wounded, his partner was killed.

Bernadette Bowes says it was their faith and religion that got them through the tough times and where they are today.
