Last night the Taney Dragons’ magical ride in Williamsport unfortunately came to an end, but the immeasurable impact that those 11 boys, and 1 girl have had on the entire nation will never diminish .
Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of following (and covering) Philly’s new favorite group of Little Leaguers as they made history one swing of the bat, and one pitch from the mound, at a time. Although we all envisioned the Dragons making it all the way to the Little League World Series Championship, only one of the tournament’s big stories could survive, and this time it wasn’t Taney.
So, what now?
Personally, I’m hoping execs at Disney are already putting their team of writers to work on a movie script to forever immortalize the story of the scrappy team from South Philly that captured the hearts of America. In the meantime, female pitching phenom Mo’ne Davis will reportedly be hitting the talk-show circuit next week. The 13-year-old’s uncanny ability to remain calm amidst a national spotlight that took her all the way to the cover of Sports Illustrated will continue to inspire kids throughout the country… girls AND boys alike.
So, from the Producer of “Eye Opener” at PHL17, and on behalf of our entire staff, I’d like to say Thank You, Taney Dragons. Thank you for giving us something so amazing and positive to report on these past few weeks. Thank you for believing in yourselves and showing others the power of T.E.A.M. (Together Everyone Achieves More)…
Thank you for being a group of 12 and 13 year olds who’ve reminded all of us “adults” to always show passion and pride in everything we do.
