The South Philadelphia String Band marched in the Mummers parade for the 68th time this year. Its captain, Denny Palandro, is the newest inductee into the Mummer’s Hall of Fame.

2014 Theme Concept:

The South Philadelphia String Band’s 2014 performance “Invasion of Piracy” opened with two giant skulls surrounding a giant treasure chest. The treasure chest opened, and to the delight of the crowd, the pirate captain emerged ready to share the booty and lead the band. South Philadelphia’s costumes this year were among the most creative! Buccaneers adorned with mermaids playing banjos stood out as being the best of the best. This entertaining performance was one to treasure!
