Donna Howlett is no stranger to the Mummers community. Her dad, who she affectionately calls, “Chippy” was in the Fancies and Comics for over 30-years. And, her son Joey Howlett Jr., who passed away in 2005, was in first Mummers Parade at eight months old and was in various comic and fancy clubs growing up. In his honor the Joey Howlett Jr. Saints were formed in 2007. Last year, winning second place in the Wench Brigade Division. Donna is a winner herself, her sausage-spinach soup recipe won first place at the first annual Golden Ladle Soup completion held the Mummers Museum in 2012. And, she’s hoping for a repeat performance this year with her delicious Saints Seafood Bisque.
Here are the ingredients:
In a big soup pot throw in scallops, crabmeat, lobster, clams, mussels a light fish (tilapia). Add as much seafood as you’d like. The bisque is formed from a cream of tomato soup, then put in old bay, cayenne pepper, salt and pepper. Voila! Cook it slow, stir lightly.
