Citizens for a No-Kill Philadelphia (CNKP), along with Love Four Paws announces their second installment of the Community Pet Pantry & Help Desk Day, an event to benefit low-income pet owners in Philadelphia, particularly in the Kensington area.

In order to help prevent families from having to surrender their pets to our city’s animal control shelter during difficult times, the Community Pet Pantry & Help Desk Days allow individuals and families in need to receive much needed pet food and supplies at no cost. Each month, a different Philadelphia neighborhood is targeted in order to reach as many residents as possible. Additionally, volunteers will be on hand to assist pet owners with pet behavior advice and give tips on how to find pet-friendly housing. At the November 23rd event, the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) will be in attendance to distribute information on low-cost veterinarian care and spay/neuter options. Red Paw Emergency Relief Team will be in attendance to distribute information regarding emergency preparedness and fire safety.

Individuals and families in need are asked to bring a photo identification card along with proof of low-income status. Income status items include, but are not limited to: social security award letters, unemployment award letters, disability award letters, most recent pay stubs from employer, retirement vouchers, bank statements, or proof of overdue bills/outstanding payments. It is not a requirement to bring pets to the Pet Pantry location to pick up supplies. Supplies received during this event are not for resale. One applicant per household is permitted to receive supplies.

The event will be held at the New Kensington Community Development Committee’s (NKCDC) Coral Street Arts House at 2446 Coral Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19125 on Saturday, November 23rd, 2013 from 12 noon to 2pm.
