Well the dog days of summer are here folks! But just how do we help our pets beat the heat? Eye Opener welcomes  ACCT Philly to shed some light on these easy tips.

Carolyn Fitzgerald of ACCT Philly joined me on set along with her little friend a chihuahua mix named Tostito to help us out in this oppressive heat wave. With the heat index peaking at about 105 to 107 your pets are definitely at risk. So, to keep your pet healthy this summer follow these tips:

  1. Keep Pets Indoors/ Air Conditioning
  2. Provide shade and access to water
  3. Walk or exercise in either the early morning or late evening
  4. Never leave pets in hot vehicles

Make no bones about it, these tips are a must do for pet owners!

Pets Beat Summer Heat If your heart and home is big enough for a new addition and you’re interested in adopting Tostito or another wonderful pet, the ACCT  Whisker Wonderland adoptathon may have the “purrfect” little animal for you.

This event will be Saturday July 20 and Sunday 21 from 10am-5pm. There will be a waived fee for all adult cats, dogs and kittens.

Benefactor or toy dogs will cost $100.

If you would like to adapt Tostito or other equally adorable pets like him, contact the ACCT Philly center at 215-385-3800 or visit
