Mercy LIFE, a subsidiary of Mercy Health System, is an adult day care facility that provides complete patient care, from promoting physical wellness to spiritual and social fulfillment for every LIFE participant.
Recreational therapists at Mercy LIFE plan an assortment of physical activities for participants to enjoy.
Monthly Caring Paws, a division of the Caring People Alliance, comes to visit Mercy LIFE as part of their recreation program. Seniors get to play with a variety of animals, including guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and Bayou, Caring Paws’ therapy dog.
Animal therapy has proven to be a great way to help Philadelphia’s seniors battling cognitive issues decrease their feelings of loneliness and boredom, cope with loss and depression after close friends and family members pass away, and enhance motor skills by encouraging the seniors to use different muscles when playing with the animals.
