The Greater Overbrook String Band was organized in 1930 and first appeared in the Philadelphia Mummers New Year’s Day Parade on January 1st, 1931 under the name of the 69 Street String Band. Then in 1939 the name was changed again to the Whitman String Band until 1952. From 1953 to present The Whitman String Band changed their name to the Greater Overbrook String Band.
