PHILADELPHIA, PA- Thanks to Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and Fairmount Park Conservancy Boathouse Row was given a very deserving makeover. For more than three decades the lights trimming Boathouse Row have illuminated the waters of the Schuylkill River. In 2005, the original lights were replaced with LEDs, intended to last for twenty years. However, various failures began to occur and the lights were in need of a full replacement. A brand new system was installed during the DNC this past July. On Saturday September 24, the city held an official relighting celebration, fully equipped with drinks courtesy of Parks On Tap, live music from Hurry, and appearances from prominent city leaders. The city of Philadelphia closed down Martin Luther King Drive at the Fairmount Dam Fish Ladder for the celebration. Thousands came out to witness this spectacular event and light show, PHL17’s Chandler Lutz has the story.
