On “In Focus” with host Jennifer Lewis-Hall, we spotlight Philabundance, a nonprofit organization fighting hunger and malnutrition in the Delaware Valley. According to Philabundance, one in seven people in the United States face hunger. They say here locally, it’s one in four people in the Philadelphia area, second worst statistically in the country after Detroit. The organization was originally founded in 1984 as a food rescue organization to help ensure that perishable food that would have gone to waste would instead be provided to people in need. Philabundance executives share the group’s latest ventures and success stories in addition to its reach into new areas helping people in our local communities. Guests include Glenn Bergman, Philabundance Executive Director and Candace Matthews-Bass, the director of the Philabundance Community Kitchen. Jennifer also features a story from PHL17’s Lauren Berman on how Philabundance is providing food to school children in the Olney section of the City. This edition of “In Focus” also features two volunteers – Sheri Howard and Vickie Rossi, who highlight their experiences with the nonprofit and how and why they got involved in the fight against hunger. “In Focus” is broadcast Saturdays at 6:30am and 11:30am to on PHL17.
