March was a tough time for the Greco family, as 54 year old ,Joe Greco, a 13 year member of the Woodland String Band found out he has small cell lung cancer.

“When I first found out your mind goes crazy and you start thinking about all kinds of crazy stuff. After it sets in you talk to people and you have a different outlook on it now,” Greco said.

Last week in South Philadelphia, Greco, along with his sons Ryan and Scott, received support from the Mummers against Cancer foundation, a small donation to help with medical expenses. Mummers Against Cancer founders, Mike and Deb Tomaseli were on hand with their committee to present a check to Greco.

“When they walked through the door to donate to my father. The whole moment was overwhelming. The band, the members of this club started clapping and cheering for my father. It’s a really overwhelming situation,” Scott Greco said, son of Joe Greco and member of the Woodland String Band.

The Mummers Against Cancer has their annual event this weekend on April 25th at Fralinger String Band clubhouse in South Philadelphia starting 8pm and ending at 12pm.
