Oscar Hernandez, a teacher at a local elementary school in Philadelphia,  is the author of the new eBook, “Just Us,” which provides a new twist for his students to learn how to read. The protagonist is a girl who doesn’t enjoy being around other people. But she has a superpower: when she is uncomfortable, she’s able to disappear. The book teaches students to be open-minded, try new things, and to never give up.

All of the illustrations featured in the eBook are created by South Jersey 8th grader, Maria Ionnone, who says she enjoyed bringing Oscar’s writing to life. The collaboration brings together writing and imagery well-suited for the imaginative young mind.
Oscar shares his four eBooks with students on iPads and via a classroom projector. He hopes his writings teach children everywhere that reading can be fun.
