The Mummers may have finished strutting down Broad Street at the end of New Years Day, but thanks to a generous donation over the weekend, future Mummers will have the opportunity to strut their way into college.
Members of the Mummer community, PHL17 and SugarHouse Casino officials gathered in South Philadelphia on Saturday, January 25th, for the annual Mummers Night of Champions at the Mummers Museum. There PHL17 General Manager Vince Giannini presented a $10,000 check to the Museum on behalf of the Tribune Foundation. SugarHouse Casino General Manager Wendy Hamilton was also honored at the event. For her commitment to the Mummers Parade over the years, a scholarship fund was announced to help children or Mummers attend college.
“We are Philly’s Casino, so we like to get involved in things and help support things that are important to our customers and important to our employees. Our employees and our customers are Philadelphians, so what’s more obvious than the Mummers Parade!” said Hamilton.
Live string bands filled the Museum with Mummery all night long as the big first prize winners in this years SugarHouse Casino Mummers Parade were also honored.
