Philadelphia Marathon Runner Struts Pink Tutu

You couldn’t pay most men to put on a pink tutu, but Keith Straw will put it on and run.  I met with this intriguing runner right before he completes the Philadelphia Marathon once again.  Keith first ran in the marathon in 2000 and since then the race and his wardrobe have truly been a journey.

Keith says since he isn’t the best runner he figured he would stand out by dressing up.  The first year he did he wore a red dress and someone handed him a Kate Spade handbag.  Then he took it to a whole new level and made himself a pink tutu.  He also bought a matching pink wand.

Keith says in England, where he’s from, dressing up for events like a marathon is normal.  He says often in America people think he’s supporting breast cancer.  He’s not raising money for that cause but he says if his pink tutu reminds people to donate then that’s great.

Keith is now a Philadelphia Marathon staple who enjoys making people laugh and smile all 26.2 miles.

What is not mentioned in the show is that Keith is a phenomenal distance runner. He has run a marathon in each of the 50 states and is a ranked ultra-marathoner – running in the trifecta of ultra each year.

I ran a lot of the second half of the 2013 Philly marathon alongside Keith. His good humor and the outpouring of support he received from the crowd made those miles fly by. Well done, mate.
