Who doesn’t love an adventure run that mixes charity, fun and underpants?! Mud Runs have mud, Color Runs have colorful paint, but the First Annual Philadelphia Cupid’s Undie Run just may trump them all. The Cupid Undie run in Philadelphia mixes frigid February temperatures and 500 runners stripping down to their undies to brave the cold for The Children’s Tumor Foundation. The “mile-ish” race began at the Urban Saloon on Fairmount Avenue Philadelphia on February 9th with temperatures below freezing.
The Cupid’s Undie Run Philadelphia was a ton of fun, but the event also “puts the hilarity in charity.” The Philadelphia race occurs simultaneously with other undie races of the same name all over America. According to Philadelphia Race Director, Dan Frenia, 1 in 3000 are affected by NF, or Neurofibromatosis characterized by spots and neurofibromas on or under the skin. Enlargement and deformation of bones and curvature of the spine (scoliosis) may also occur. Occasionally, tumors develop in the brain, on cranial nerves, or on the spinal cord. About half of those with NF also have learning disabilities. Frenia added that over 8000 runners participated in Cupid Undie Runs worldwide and raised over one million dollars, combined, to fight the disease.
Special congrats to the following Philadelphia racers and teams the raised the most money.
