On New Year’s day at 8:00am, PHL17 will begin coverage of the SugarHouse Casino Mummers Parade with a special program entitled Breakfast with the Mummers. Live coverage from 16th and JFK will follow and will be broadcast in HD (high definition).
Returning this year is Mummers Hall of Famer, Steve Highsmith, who will anchor coverage of the parade. Joining Steve for this year’s broadcast will be 6abc Meteorologists Adam Joseph and David Murphy, plus Sarah Bloomquist, Brian Taff and Alicia Vitarelli.
In primetime, PHL17 will broadcast the SugarHouse Casino Fancy Brigade Finale from the Pennsylvania Convention Center from 8:00pm to 10:00pm New Year’s Day.
Fans from around the world will be able to watch the SugarHouse Casino Mummers Parade Stream live on PHL17.com starting at 10:00am. This is a great opportunity for Mummers enthusiasts outside of the Philadelphia area to take part in this unique tradition. In addition to the live stream, PHL17 will be posting photos and videos regularly throughout the day on PHL17.com.
Leading up to parade day, host Steve Highsmith will feature “SugarHouse Casino Mummers Moments” in Eye Opener from 6:00am-8:00am. This special segment will take you behind the scenes of Mummery and provide exclusive information about Philadelphia’s most popular New Year’s tradition.
Fans can also participate in the SugarHouse Casino Viewers’ Choice Poll where they will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite String Band and Fancy Brigade performance. Voters can enter online at PHL17.com where polls will open at 5:00pm on New Year’s Day and will close at 8:59am on Tuesday, January 8th.
Following the SugarHouse Casino Fancy Brigade Finale, viewers can tune in to Action News at 10 on PHL17 for the announcement of all division winners.
The Mummers Parade has been in Philadelphia for over 100 years and has been the most watched television program in the region on New Year’s Day, averaging an 8.7 household rating over the eighteen years it has been broadcast on PHL17.
